Evidence of Work
For this project we were asked to identify a problem and develop some sort of solution, whether it's physical or an idea of something that could be done in the future. I was in a group with Simon, Jack, and Chase. We decided to choose acne as it is a problem that affects many teens and young people today. For our solution we decided to come up with something physical that contained many beneficial ingredients.
Content
Step 1: Identify Need or Problem- My group decided to choose acne as our world problem and come up with a solution to treat it.
Step 2: Research Need- My group decided to just pick 3 sources each from credible sources that had to do with acne, such as the cause, types, and treatments for it.
Step 3: Develop Possible Solutions- After putting all of our ideas together my group narrowed our solution down to 4 possible solutions, which were a face wash, a face mask, a facial shocker, and a spot cleaner.
Step 4: Select Best Solution- After looking at the benefits and drawbacks we decided that a facial spot cleaner would be the best solution
Step 5: Construct Prototype- When constructing the spot cleaner we decided to use ingredients that were both beneficial to one's skin and that were easy attainable, whether it be at home or a drug store. We decided to use a combination of honey, tea tree oil, water, and baking soda. All of which had been proven to help improve one's acne and skin.
Step 6: Test & Evaluate- We did not have much time to test, but in the short two days that we did we tested it on Jack and it seemed to strongly reduce the inflammation of the whitehead on his face
Step 7: Present Solution- When presenting our solution we used a slides presentation that included the types of acne, best treatments that are out and available right now, and our solution and its ingredients.
Step 8: Redesign- If we were to redesign we would use some different ingredients that are better than the ones we used to treat acne, use exact measurements of the ingredients that we used, and test our solution on multiple people for a longer period of time.
Types of Acne-
Whiteheads: Small bumps that have a closed top of pore
Blackheads: Top of pore is open, they are caused by a buildup of melanin
Cysts: Largest form of acne, can be very painful to touch
Papules: Rash looking form of acne, do not contain pus
Pastules: Moderate form of acne, noticeable white or yellow bumps
Nodules: Deep form of acne, they are irritated pores

Reflection
Throughout the project I thought there were some things that my group and I did well and some things that we could have improved upon. I thought that we did an excellent job when it came to pouring all the research that we had into the presentation and showing the audience all the hard work we put into this project. I also thought we did a good job when it came to time management and getting things done when they need to. However, there were some things I don't think that we did well and one of them was that I felt that our initial annotations could have been better and more specifically mine, but after redoing them they were much better. I also thought that we could have improved upon staying on task because if we had stayed on task more of the time we wouldn't have had to cram things into our presentation in the last minute. In the future I would like to get better at making sure my teammates know exactly what they need to do, making the group as efficient as possible.
I also learned many things about myself in this project and gained many skills from this project. Above all I think the greatest skill that came from this project was that I learned how to annotate and do it well, which I feel will help me in the long run especially when dealing with large scientific texts. Another skill that I gained from this project was cutting down the mass amount of information that I had into just a few slides and still getting the point across. One of the things I learned about myself is that I can be an excellent public speaker if I know everything that I am saying and have rehearsed it because I felt that I did a solid job presenting as a result of knowing what everything on the slides meant. I also learned how to be a leader and I felt I did a good job when it came to telling the group what to do in a way that they could be successful and be motivated to do their work. I also learned how to stay focused on what I am doing and get a mass amount of work done in a short period of time.
